What Our Clients Have To Say
As well as having worked with athletes from a range of backgrounds, such as Bentley M-Sport's Steven Kane, Carlisle United's Danny Grainger and ex-WWE wrestler Rampage Brown, we pride ourselves on how our everyday clients love our work!
"Martyn was fantastic at the Carlisle Half this year. He offered valued advice before and after the run and feedback from all of the competitors that used his service were very complimentary. His professional service really helped us provide a great event and he was an integral part of it. I highly recommend Phoenix Sports Injury Clinic and look forward to working with Martyn in the future."
Ian Milburn - Founder of Carlisle Half Marathon
"Martyn is one of the most professional, knowledgeable and talented Sports Rehabilitators, I have come across. I was fortunate enough to study alongside Martyn and in fact, often learnt a lot from him! His skills, and application of treatment are second to none! Martyn even helped me to recover well from an old reoccurring hamstring injury, which repeatedly got in the way of my football, a year down the line and I am still pain and injury free! Rest assured, when needed; Martyn is your man! Competent, skilled and professional is probably the best way to describe him!"
Alan Kay - Owner of AK Sports Therapy
"In May 2017 I took part in the Brathay 10in10, ten marathons in ten days around Lake Windermere. Each of the participants is paired with a physio, and I was fortunate enough to get Martyn. It is no exaggeration to say that I would have not made it through this without him. Martyn’s knowledge and approach throughout the ten days was excellent across a whole range of areas and injury types. He was also able to assist me in the management of my body during the challenge, making sure I made it to the finish. I managed to complete the ten days without any injuries and had no after-effects either. I am sure that is as a direct result of Martyn’s skills.
I would not hesitate to recommend him."
Mike Sprot - Brathay 10in10 Champion 2017
"After having plantar fasciitis since May, I went to see Martyn at Phoenix last week. I was given a personal plan that targets my specific pain along with a deep tissue massage on my calf. I’m already feeling benefits and I’m going back to continue treatment. After thinking my running shoes were retired for good, I’ve been given new hope and will be continuing to run.
Kim Hodgson - Star Bootcamp Cumbria
"Seen Phoenix sports after the new Carlisle half. Was a short session, but really helped me out with a sports massage on legs. Was excellent, as were the other things he did with my sore leg.
Will definitely see again and recommend to anyone."
Victoria Irving - Carlisle Tri Club
"Got post event massage from Martyn yesterday [UKCE Fellbeast 2018]. Having had much sports massage over the years I found Martyn to be highly capable. A very competent young man who clearly takes his profession seriously. As a recent Sports Rehabilitation graduate Martyn has all the latest knowledge and skills required for modern day practice."
Malkom - UKCE Fellbeast
"I returned to running after a seven year break only to find that my old hamstring injury popped again. Martyn helped me understand why and now I am working on a program to repair my hamstring in an active way so it will be more robust in the future. It makes a nice change to see someone about sports injury and NOT be told “rest for 3 weeks”. I feel confident that I will be fitter and stronger at the end of my treatment period."
Jenny Armstrong - Border Reiver Runners
"Having spent a long summer out of sport due to a knee injury, which had stopped me running completely and left me in quite a bit of pain and discomfort, I found myself having a chat with Martyn from Phoenix about the injury and my frustrations. During the time I spent in the clinic, I totally felt that I was in expert, safe hands and his attitude was only positive towards my recovery. That positivity completely lifted my spirits/hopes for running again. After a thorough examinaton of my knee and my overall leg movement, I was prescribed a series of stretches and strengthening exercises. I followed his advice to the letter and let me tell you this; only three weeks later my knee is feeling so much better, much stronger and I’m running again... I couldn’t be happier!"
Bernie Simpson - UoC Team10
I went to see Martyn to get advice and treatment for a recurring knee injury. I was trying to increase the distance I could do and as usual, once I tried to do this, my left knee and hip would start causing me pain and once again I had to stop running as it was so sore. Martyn listened to my explanation of what was happening, his examination was thorough, he explained his diagnosis and the treatments he planned to do, and patiently answered any questions I had. He also gave me exercises to do at home to help resolve the issue. As the problem was resolved, I was also able to return to strength/functional training, and again have remained injury free, doing gym circuits and bootcamp, following supervised exercise and advice from Martyn. I am pleased to say that the treatment was successful and I am able, once again, to enjoy exercise and remain pain free.
I can’t recommend him enough!
Vanda Parkinson - Ex Powerlifter
"Came over to the UK from Perth for family commitments, 4 months after my accident having a bouldering fall in a climbing competition, in which I twisted my left leg; tearing my ACL, MCL, patella tendon, meniscus and partial PCL. After a total full knee reconstruction operation, my Australian physio advised me to seek a practitioner while in the UK and I was told I would need surgery if my movement wasn’t restored soon.
I seen Martyn 3 times per week for 5 weeks and at first I was on crutches and my knee was very swollen. I was also apprehensive about returning to sport and was convinced I wouldn’t be bouldering again. After using kinesiology tape, massage and TENS to reduce the swelling I was moved onto walking, running and weight training and was off crutches without a limp within the first few rehab sessions.
When I first seen Martyn I was at 102º of knee flexion, but with working on gym, home and clinic sessions, including massage to mobilise the knee, I left with 122º flexion. I now have around 140º flexion, I have returned to bouldering and no longer need the additional surgery!
I put a hell of a lot of physio in before I came to the UK and it helped me so much that I was with Martyn for 5 weeks. So much help and information to help me through a very tough time and give me my confidence back."
Craig Clark - Australia
"Went to see Martyn following an injury I’d been battling with for a couple of years. After only having two sessions I was able to run Barcelona half marathon pain free. I would highly recommend Phoenix Sports Clinic!"
"Martyn recently saw my son who was suffering from an injury that was hampering his efforts to get into the military. Martyn immediately identified the problem and provided help and advice in rehabilitation and ongoing injury prevention. My son passed his assessment centre and is now undergoing basic training. The treatment provided has undoubtedly assisted him in being able to cope with the demands of the training. I would recommend Martyn unreservedly for sports rehab or fitness training."
Adrian Sowerby - Founder of Sport in Action
"I used Martyn’s services at a recent 3 stage cycle race. He was professional, friendly and gave a superb massage post-race to 'flush out' and pre-race to activate the legs. Would go back sooner if I lived a bit closer! Book him in!!"
Graham Carrick - Barrow Central Wheelers
"I travel across the border for regular sports massages with Martyn. I'm a runner who has suffered with recurring injuries for years, but since getting treatment with Martyn, have been injury free and been getting PBs across all running distances. As well as the massage, he tapes me up before races and always gives comprehensive advice on sports nutrition and strengthening work. This holistic approach has certainly helped me and I would not hesitate to recommend him."
